According to the European Distribution Report 2008, Belgium has forged ahead of the Netherlands. What are its main assets? 

 

 

 

“You have to be where the markets are.”
From Wallonia, 65% of markets can be reached within a day. “Location is of strategic importance”, explains Jef Van Doorslaer at C&W.

 

In Liege warehouse space costs between 22 and 40 euro/year per square metre.
In Antwerp that rises to between 37 and 47 euro. 5,000 hectares of additional space have just been allocated to industry in Wallonia, guaranteeing a further ten years of development with no risk of saturation.

Skechers expands at Milmort

In 2002, Skechers, an American company wanting to distribute its shoes this side of the Atlantic, opened a 22,000 m² centre in Milmort near Liege. Sales have since soared and six years on, the surface area is being doubled.
