This project aims to ensure a source of energy that is optimal (and renewable) for rail traction and will generate gains in terms of cost and performance. It aims to devise a solution for the accumulation and storage of energy (using a flywheel) as well as a system to connect to the energy distribution network.

The main deliverable consists in the conception of a system for storing energy at ground level using a flywheel and taking the following steps:

  • analysis and dimensioning of the system ;
  • creation of a demonstrator : mechanical part allowing for the storage of energy and electrical part providing the link between this mechanical part and the network ;
  • installation of the demonstrator into an offloaded storage station linked to the rail network.

 The entirety will undergo a series of measures.
