Liege Airport and MyCargo Airlines sign Memorandum of Understanding
The management of Liege Airport announces an agreement with MyCargo Airlines (Turkey).
Founded in 2005 under the name ACT Airlines, the company was recently taken over by the HNA Group (Hainan Airlines) and is now called MyCargo Airlines. It operates from its hub in Turkey, the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (Istanbul).
On 5th and 6th July 2012, Mr José Happart, the President, and Mr Luc Partoune, the Managing Director of Liege Airport, were pleased to welcome Mr Omer Sungur, the Managing Director of ACT Airlines, for a tour of the airport, which concluded on Friday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
This official ceremony was graciously attended by Mr Jean-Claude Marcourt, the Vice-President of the Walloon Government, the Minister for the Economy and Foreign Trade. This Memorandum of Understanding makes Liege Airport the European airport of choice for MyCargo Airlines’ (ACT) European cargo charter operations.
For the Minister for the Economy, Jean-Claude Marcourt, this Memorandum opens new perspectives for the Liege region: « During the Trade Mission to Turkey from 21st to 25th June, I had the opportunity to update the ACT dossier with the President of the company, Mr Omer Sungur, and with Steven Verhasselt, the representative of Liege Airport.
This allowed us to add the latest details and to take the final steps in a process which has been conducted by the airport authorities with discretion and professionalism, guarantees of the trust necessary for this type of relationship.
With the arrival of ACT and the prospect that it implies, of an opening towards China, this confirms the economic role of Liege Airport, which I greatly welcome. » Luc Partoune, the Managing Director of Liege Airport, welcomes this collaboration: « ACT Airlines has grown considerably since it started trading. The fact that it is backed by such a large corporation as HNA Group reflects the importance of Turkey in international trade.
For Liege Airport, the collaboration with MyCargo Airlines is promising, both for transport to and from Turkey and for links with the Chinese market. »
