E-origin: customs compliance in e-commerce

THE PROJECT:
Customs representatives are not able to assess the reliability of declarative data in the context of e-commerce import flows. Indeed, this data comes from a succession of logistics intermediaries, which causes information distortion. As a result, non-compliant data is considered fraudulent by customs authorities.
e-Origin develops solutions for customs declarations with the support of research. The University of Liège and the Customs Trade Law Academy study customs compliance in e-commerce. The University of Mons is working on artificial intelligence to assist with tariff classification decisions (HS Code).
e-Origin integrates these elements into its solutions and is also developing an application to collect supporting documents from marketplaces. These proofs will have legal standing regarding the value and classification of goods, helping to streamline cross-border e-commerce flows.
The added value of e-Origin’s solutions is to reduce risks for customs representatives and improve the delivery experience for e-commerce sellers.
The e-Origin solution is a SaaS platform that automatically collects declarative data to ensure customs compliance and handles the submission of declarations.
It enables:
- Fraud detection through automated data collection
- Decision support on non-compliance using artificial intelligence algorithms
- Risk analysis of value and tariff classification to assess financial penalties
- Collection of supporting evidence that can be presented to authorities
